We once had a Land Rover independent garage and quickly found that handling more than 500 stock lines meant that we
were often not ordering parts in time for jobs we had booked in. So we searched for a stock control/invoicing program and found
nothing which would cater for the unique market where we had 5 national suppliers and a host of
superseded numbers
going back 50 years !
A fellow Land Rover enthusiast created a simple DOS based program that a couple of other dealers liked so they contributed to
the costs of developing it. But along came the fear of the year 2000 and Win3.1 and so began a learning curve that is never ending.
In 2001 Forest 2000 was born and quickly gained approval with some 60 users by October 2004. During this time one of the national wholesalers commissioned the building of a big brother to Forest 2000 which was called Allmakes Garage Manager.
With the new features of AGM users quickly grew to almost 100 by which time Allmakes had acquired the company - Forest Software leaving us - Forest Data Support with the support portion of the former business. With this lighter work load and being inhibited from working for the UK motor industry for 5 years we pondered what stage IT would reach for small businesses during that time.
